NOTHING IN IT UNTIL GOAL SAYS BOSS

23 February 2016

But Mick concedes leaders showed their quality and will take some stopping

Mick McCarthy said Town matched the Championship leaders for the first-half but conceded Hull showed their quality after the break.

A goal from Mohamed Diame on 48 minutes separated the teams, with Tommy Smith inches away from an equaliser in added on time.

“We could have nicked something right at the end. Would we have deserved it, maybe not but we would have taken it,” the Town boss told Ipswich Player HD.

“There was nothing in it in the first-half. Murph hit the post and there are fine margins in this league.

“It was a fantastic goal from them though and then there was a 10 minute spell when it could have got worse for us.

“We got blocks in and kept going to the end, as we always do, and almost got a draw out of it.

“They showed their quality though after the goal. They have good players and are a good team. The don’t concede many goals and you can see why. They deserved to win.

“I said that Middlesbrough and Derby would go up but they have slipped up a bit. Hull just look like they are getting stronger. They will take some stopping.”
