Academy sees six in line to join professional ranks for next season

Town will be offering professional contracts to six Academy scholars.

James Blanchfield, George Fowler, Monty Patterson, Chris Smith, Shane McLoughlin and Jacob Marsden have all been told by Town boss Mick McCarthy that an offer will be made that will keep them at Portman Road for at least another season.

James spent eight years at Arsenal before becoming a scholar at 16 at Town, while local boy Chris is wearing the colours of the team he supported as a boy and has been at the Club since he was eight.

George also came through the younger ranks at Playford Road and has had experience of playing for the U18s since he was 14, with Irishman Shane, like the others, featuring for Town’s U21s this season, scoring twice.

Monty, who has represented New Zealand at U23 level, is back running having been sidelined since August after dislocating his ankle playing for Town’s U21s against Leeds.

Goalkeeper Jacob was in action for the U21s against Crystal Palace this week having returned to action following a lengthy spell out with a knee ligament injury.

Second-year scholar Travis Cole, also a Town fan growing up, will be offered an extension with the Club having had his season hindered by injury.
