Mick to make changes for clash with Pompey as Town look to end disappointing cup run

Mick McCarthy says he will be making changes to his line-up for Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Portsmouth with Blues facing another heavy schedule of fixtures.

Town face Pompey at Portman Road looking to end a miserable run in the competition that has seen the Club fail to get past the third round stage since 2010.

Then it’s back to Championship matters next week with two home games in five days.

“We had a heavy schedule recently with three games in a week over Christmas and we go again on Tuesday night here against Leeds and then again next Saturday against Preston so I’ll be freshening things up a bit against Portsmouth,” said the Town boss writing in his column in the matchday programme.

“We’ve got some really good players, the likes of Tommy Oar, Ainsley [Maitland-Niles], Luke Hyam, Piotr Malarczyk who need to be playing games.

“I’m sure, like us, the priority for Portsmouth is League football but they will see this as an opportunity to take a scalp from a higher division. We have got to do our best to make sure that doesn’t happen.”

Supporters are reminded that Saturday’s game is all-ticket for both clubs and that a season ticket does not give you access to cup matches. For full details, click here.
