Management duo sign up until 2018 with options for two more years on top

Mick McCarthy and Terry Connor have extended their contracts at Portman Road until the summer of 2018.

The Town boss and his assistant have been at the Club since November 2012, guiding Blues away from relegation in that first season, before overseeing a climb up the table that saw a ninth place finish in 2013/14 and a Play-Off spot last term.

Mick and TC penned three year deals in the summer of 2014 that have now been extended by a further year to recognise the progress the Club has made under their tenure, with Blues in the promotion picture again this term.

The contracts also include options that could see Mick and Terry remain at Portman Road until 2020.

“TC and I are obviously delighted to have extended our contracts,” Mick told the Club website.

“We are really enjoying the job here and the results on the pitch have improved year on year. In a relentless and tough league that the Championship is, that is testament to the hard work the players have put in.

“I think we have a team we can all be proud of and it’s mine and TC’s job to make sure that continues.”

Town MD, Ian Milne, added: “It’s obviously great news that Mick and Terry have agreed contract extensions at the Football Club.

“We have also signed up a number of our players on long term contracts over the past year or so who have been at core of the team and with Terry and Mick in charge of that team, we will continue to have a stable foundation to build on over the coming seasons.”

Blues are next in action on Saturday at Birmingham where Mick saw his first game in charge as Town boss end in a 1-0 win more than three years ago.  Subscribers to Ipswich Player HD can hear live commentary from St Andrew’s. Kick-off 3pm.
