Mick McCarthy isn't worried by pre-season results following 1-0 defeat at Barnet
Mick McCarthy insists pre-season results do not matter, providing Town can secure an opening day victory over Barnsley at Portman Road.
A John Akinde penalty was the difference as the Blues fell to a 1-0 defeat at Barnet in the second friendly match ahead of the new season, but the gaffer wasn’t disheartened by his side’s performance.
“We’ve tried to get the ball down and pass it, which I thought we did,” he told the Club website.
“In the second-half I thought we were excellent apart from the stupid penalty which came from a backpass. Other than that, without creating a load of chances, I thought we passed the ball well.
“I’d sooner win the game, don’t get me wrong. I wanted to get something out of it because I don’t like losing, but people will see that we’ve lost and it reflects badly on us.
“Whatever happens in pre-season, our start will be defined by what we do against Barnsley, and then the games after that.”
