Town may have to play waiting game as Premier League clubs hold on to players says boss

Mick McCarthy says Town may have to play a waiting game following the change in the emergency loan system as he looks to add to his squad.

Adam Webster and Paul Digby have joined Blues over the summer, with the boss keen to further increase the competition for places before the Championship season gets underway on August 6.

The new loan system means clubs can only take loan signings between the transfer windows, with recall options no longer available in half season deals and Mick says that Premier League clubs won’t be in a hurry to loan out or let players go.

“You have the players who were in the Euros being given extra time off and that means Premier League clubs will take their younger players with them to supplement their squads for pre-season games.

“It will give them time to look at those younger players and then they will start making decisions but the fact we can no longer do emergency loans will have an affect on everyone.

“Clubs will be looking at their squads and making sure they get the right bodies in and not making any mistakes.

“Premier League clubs will start letting players go soon, whether for loan or for permanent deals but it’s possible that could happen past the start of the season and towards the end of August when the window shuts.”
