Gaffer gives his reaction to the news that Sam Allardyce has landed the job as England national team boss

Mick McCarthy has passed on his best wishes to Sam Allardyce, after the former Sunderland man was officially announced as the new manager of the England national team.

The gaffer, who has international experience after managing the Republic of Ireland, told the Club website he was delighted to see his LMA colleague given the top job.

“I’m absolutely delighted for Sam, first and foremost but I’m also delighted for the LMA and all the English managers out there,” Mick told Ipswich Player HD.

“As managers, we all have to cut our teeth in the game and Sam has done that. He’s been down in the lower leagues and worked his way up and his knowledge of football is superb.

“He’s a very bright guy and he will get the team working hard and giving their all. If you add a better standard of player into that mix, then that could well be a recipe for success.

“I’m delighted for Sam and good luck to him.”
