Defender over the moon to pen new three-year contract at Portman Road

Tommy Smith has spoken of his delight at extending his Town stay, after the long-serving defender penned a new contract at Portman Road.

The New Zealand international put pen to paper on a new three-year contract, with the option of a further 12 month stay, and couldn’t hide his delight at securing his future in Suffolk.

“I’m delighted to be staying and I’m pleased it’s all sorted now,” Tommy told Ipswich Player HD.

“Ipswich is the only place I wanted to be at really. I’m settled in the area and enjoying my football, so it’s great to have the contract sorted now.

“I’ve been at the Club a long time now and it means a lot to me, so signing this new deal is great and I’m delighted to be staying.

“The gaffer spoke to me at the end of last season and said he wanted to get something sorted. These things don’t happen overnight and it took a little while, but I’m just happy to have got it done now and have my future secured for the next three years or so.”
