BUZZ AS NEW SEASON APPROACHES

22 June 2016

Town MD Ian Milne reacts to the new 2016/17 fixtures and is excited to see football return to Portman Road

Ipswich Town MD, Ian Milne, has spoken of ‘the excitement’ at seeing the new fixtures for the 2016/17 EFL Championship campaign - with an early season clash against East Anglian rivals Norwich already whetting the appetite.

The Blues kick-off the new term at home to Barnsley, with the Canaries the next side to visit Portman Road in the League, and Ian believes the buzz for the return of domestic football is now starting to kick in.

“I think fixture release day is always a date that fans up and down the country look out for and it gets everybody talking about the new season,” Ian told the official Club website.

“We’ve got a good opening game against a promoted side in Barnsley, a Club Mick knows all about of course, and having a home fixture to kick-off with is always welcomed.

“Then we have the eagerly anticipated return of the East Anglian derby, when Norwich visit Portman Road in just the fourth league game, so August is already shaping up to be a very exciting month on the pitch.

“We’re building up to the new season off the pitch too and there is plenty of work going on behind-the-scenes to make sure we are all prepared for the big kick-off.

“We’ve got plenty of things going on, such as our annual open day on July 28th here at Portman Road which we hope will prove to be as popular as the last few years.

“And we are also looking forward to welcoming Royale Union Saint-Gillioise to Suffolk for our final friendly of the pre-season schedule, where our supporters can catch a glimpse of how the team is shaping up ahead of that game with Barnsley.”

More details on both the Open Day and that friendly with Belgium side RUSG will be announced on the official Club website in due course.
