Daryl Murphy is an unused sub for Ireland as Martin O'Neill's men pick up a point
Town striker Daryl Murphy was an unused sub last night as the Boys in Green held Erik Hamrén’s Sweden to a 1-1 draw in the first game of their Euro 2016 campaign.
Ex-Town player Jonathan Walters started in midfield for Martin O’Neill’s men, but a knee injury forced him off after 62 minutes.
Meanwhile, ex-Town loanee Jonny Williams put in a strong performance for Wales in their first major tournament match in 58 years. The Dragons brushed Slovakia aside 2-1 to put them top of Group B.
Elsewhere, former Blue Gareth McCauley started in the centre of defence for Northern Ireland in a 1-0 loss to Poland in Group C’s opening game on Sunday, whilst Frederic Veseli, now with Lugano FC, failed to win his 4th cap for 10-man Albania in their 1-0 loss against a strong Swiss side.
One-time Town striker Tamás Priskin could start in Hungary’s first match against Austria tonight in Group F.
