Town striker plays his part as Ireland seal last 16 place
Daryl Murphy played 70 minutes from the start as the Republic of Ireland sealed their last-16 place at Euro 2016 with a 1-0 win over Italy in Lille.
The striker, who scored 10 times for Town last season, made his first appearance at the tournament as Robbie Brady scored a late winner for Martin O’Neill’s men, setting up a tie with France on Sunday.
The goal ensured Ireland would reach the knockout stages at a European Championships for the first time, and Murph will hope to retain his starting spot in Lyon as his side look to progress to the quarter-final.
