Kevin hoping McGoldrick finds goal touch on return to boost Blues and head to Euros

Kevin Foley is backing David McGoldrick to stake his claim for a place in the Republic of Ireland squad for this summer’s European Championship over the rest of the season.

Didz has been pencilled in for a return to action following three months out with a badly torn hamstring in the U21s’ match against Nottingham Forest at Portman Road on Monday, kick-off 7.00pm.

“I’ve got my fingers crossed for the boys here, Murph and Didzy, that they make the squad for the summer,” said Kevin in an interview in Saturday’s matchday programme.

“I’ve just seen Didz play in training for the first time this week and he looks really good.

“You can see he’s chomping at the bit to train and get back playing and I know the quality he has because I’ve played against him many times.

“Hopefully he can get himself back on the pitch playing and scoring goals to give Martin O’Neill a headache.”

Don’t miss Saturday’s programme for an in-depth interview with Foles, who speaks about his Republic of Ireland ‘comedy nightmare’, his time in Denmark and getting a lucky break with Blues.

There is also an extensive interview with Academy manager Bryan Klug, columns with Mick McCarthy, Luke Chambers and John Wark, plus Luke Varney, Liam Feeney and Daryl Murphy, not to mention the latest set of free stickers.
