DIDZ OUT TO MAKE HIS MARK

9 November 2016

Striker eager to play his part in Ireland World Cup quest

Town have six players away on international duty, with David McGoldrick included in the full Republic of Ireland squad and eager to be involved in their World Cup qualifier against Austria at the weekend.

The Irish travel to Vienna second in a qualifying group that also includes Wales, with Didz looking to impress in training this week having missed out on the final squad for the European Championship in the summer.

“That was a low for me, not making the squad but I’m realistic and knew it was an outside chance that I would make it,” said Didz, who has four Ireland caps to his name.

“That has gone now though and there is a World Cup to play for and I want to be involved. Missing out on the Euros has made me even more eager to be playing a part.

“We have a few strikers missing for the Austria game. It’s down to me to show  the gaffer and the staff here in training what I can do and hopefully I can be involved at the weekend.”

Also on international duty are Christophe Berra, who is in the Scotland squad for their World Cup qualifier against England at Wembley on Friday, Jonny Williams and Tom Lawrence, who are with Wales for their qualifier against Serbia on Saturday, Monty Patterson, currently on loan at Braintree, who is with New Zealand for a double header against New Caledonia on November 12 and 15 and Andre Dozzell who is with England U18s for games against Poland and France tomorrow and Monday.

Jonas Knudsen was in the provisional squad for Denmark’s World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan on Friday and the friendly against the Czech Republic next week but did not make the trimmed down selection.
