McGoldrick waltzes into initial World Cup squad for Vienna clash
The 28-year-old striker returned to action after nearly three months out with ankle ligament damage with a second-half display at Newcastle last week and followed that up with his first goal of the season, a last minute equaliser against Rotherham at the weekend.
Ireland boss Martin O’Neill has named an initial 35 man squad for the game in Vienna on November 12, with that trimmed down after this weekend’s fixtures
The Republic currently sit second in their qualifying group behind Serbia on goal difference after two wins and a draw from their three games.
Also included in the squad are two former Town players, Jon Walters and Conor Hourihane but Daryl Murphy misses out through injury.
