The defender catches up with Ipswich Player HD to explain how well his recovery from back surgery is going
Tommy Smith has told the official Club website that he's progressing well, as he looks to recover from back surgery.
The defender suffered a slipped disc which required surgery back in September, but Tommy is now back joining in with very light training and is already looking forward to being back on the pitch.
"The first few weeks were tough, I was just at home and only able to do very light exercises, as well as being encouraged to go for 20 minute walks or so to keep myself active.
"It's a boost to be back out on the grass doing some very light jogging, and I've been able to watch the boys training which is good for me too.
"It's tough because you want to be joining in and you know you've still got a long way to go, but you can't rush these things and I'm just focusing on getting myself right and returning to action.
"I haven't put a specific time frame on it but I'm progressing well and working closely with the medical team, so things are going well and we're happy with the way things are."
