BOSS' CHALLENGE TO RETURNING PLAYERS

28 October 2016

Chance to nail down a place in team as Mick looks for consistency

Mick McCarthy says the opportunity is there for the players returning from injury to nail down a place in his team.

Jonny Williams and David McGoldrick are both in the squad for Saturday’s game against Rotherham - a match the Town boss has described as a must win - after recovering from three months out with ankle ligament damage.

“Jonny played 90 minutes for the U23s on Monday, so did Bish [Teddy Bishop] and Didz had a half at Newcastle last week. They are not ready to play Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday yet but they are getting there.

“When they are fully fit, they have got a chance to nail down a place in the team.

“That opportunity is there for them because we’re not in a situation where the team is picking itself every week. We have been nowhere near that. Injuries have played a massive part in that and we’ve not had consistency in terms of the teams I have been able to put out or the results and performances.”
