Mick hopes late goal can provide spark for upturn but concedes tough time at the moment

Mick McCarthy is hoping David McGoldrick’s late strike can provide the break to turn Town’s fortunes around.

The Republic of Ireland international’s first goal of the season with the last kick of the game gave Blues a 2-2 draw against Rotherham.

“Sometimes in a season you need a break and maybe that is the break for us to get things going,” the Town boss told Ipswich Player HD.

“We have played well in the first-half but not in the second. They made it difficult for us and then it becomes hostile.

“I felt for the players because it’s never easy to play when it’s like that. It was directed at me and that’s fine. I’ve said before I don’t want it directed at the players and they kept going.

“We are having it tough at the moment and it’s getting increasingly difficult but the only way we can stop that is to turn the season around and get the fans back on our side.

“It’s proving difficult at the moment but we are getting players back out on the park and I’m confident we will get there.”
