Mick hails scorer Sears as Town get back on track

Mick McCarthy was delighted with the three points against Burton and thrilled to see Freddie Sears on the scoresheet.

The former West Ham striker grabbed his first goal since December after Luke Chambers’ early opener - Town’s first goal in six games - to take Blues to within three points of the Play-Off places.

“We are all delighted for Freddie, the players and the fans. You could see that with the celebrations and the whole team joining in,” Mick told Ipswich Player HD.

“He has needed a goal but I have never thought about leaving him out in that time. He contributes pace, energy, enthusiasm. He is a real threat all the time and he has been so selfless in the way he has played out wide.

“He is a terrific member of the squad and timed his run brilliantly for the goal. Let’s hope he can go on a run now.”

The 2-0 victory was Town’s first in six games and Mick added: “We needed the win, obviously.

“They were the underdogs. We were expected to win and that makes it more difficult. They showed they are a capable Championship side and we had a bit of luck along the way but maybe we were due that.

“It was a good result for us and another clean sheet, that’s five out of seven now.

“It’s been a matter of keeping calm and believing in yourself and the players and we have had the reward for that tonight.”
