Caution is key for midfielder but immediate return at Newcastle is possible

Mick McCarthy is hopeful that Jonny Williams will be available for Saturday’s trip to Championship leaders Newcastle.

The Wales international was left out of the squad for the win against Burton last night as a precaution after sustaining a thigh problem.

“Jonny said his thigh felt a bit tight after playing at Blackburn and then training on Sunday,” the Town boss told the Club website.

“Everyone wants him to be back. We want him back but we have to be very careful with him. We want him for the long haul.

“It was more precaution than anything. Hopefully he will be fine for the weekend.”

Cole Skuse is a concern for the game at St James’ Park after being forced off in the second-half against Burton.

“Skusey has had a sore toe for a while. He was suffering with it last night. We will see how he is on Thursday,” added  Mick.
