Gerard Nash's side record first away win of the season with solid display at Watford
Paul Digby and Andre Dozzell were on the scoresheet as Town’s U23 recorded their first away win of the season against Watford at Vicarage Road.
The Blues’ starting line-up also included Josh Emmanuel, who has played first-team football in recent weeks, and Adam McDonnell made the squad for the first time in over a month as he looks to return from injury.
Town took the lead with a quarter of an hour on the clock as Digby nodded a Dozzell free-kick past Rene Gilmartin in the Hornets net, and held that advantage into the break despite Dion Pereira coming close for the hosts with an effort that crashed off the bar.
Pereira forced Harry Wright into a great save early in the second-half after some neat link-up play with Michael Folivi, and it proved to be an important one as Gerard Nash’s side extended the lead soon after.
Emmanuel surged into the Watford penalty area before being fouled by Connor Stevens, resulting in Town being awarded a spot-kick. Dozzell stepped up and dispatched the penalty, giving the Blues a cushion going into the final 20 minutes.
Harry Kewell’s Hornets pulled one back after Folivi won, and scored a penalty kick, having been fouled by Digby, ensuring a nervy final ten minutes, but Town held on to secure all three points.
