Blues midfielder impressed by the Magpies as Town defeated 3-0 in the North East
Grant Ward concedes Town were second best in the defeat at St. James’ Park, and tips the Toon Army to return to the Premier League next season.
The Blues fell to a 3-0 defeat to Newcastle, with Ayoze Perez grabbing a double for the Magpies, the first of which came in the opening minute, and Wardy admits it was an uphill struggle from there.
“It didn’t help us to concede with less than minute gone and from there the crowd were right behind them,” he told Ipswich Player HD.
“Their tails were up then so it was hard for us after that. From what I’ve seen today Newcastle are definitely going to be up at the top of the league, there’s no doubt there.
“When they had chances, they took them. We we didn’t have as many of them but we hit the crossbar and had a few we could have done better with.
“The manager couldn’t fault our effort and he knows that everyone will put it all in every week but he said we were beaten by the better team which is probably true.
“We’ve got Rotherham next so we just have to recover well and look forward to that one.”
