No arguments over result but Town well below par concedes Mick at Elland Road

Mick McCarthy conceded Town were second best at Elland Road as Blues’ injury problems mounted.

A first-half header from former Town loanee Chris Wood gave the Whites a 1-0 win with Blues also losing Brett Pitman, Adam Webster and Grant Ward to injury.

“Leeds deserved the win, no doubt,” the Town boss told Ipswich Player HD.

“Sometimes you have to give the opposition credit and they played very well. They were better than us all over the pitch.

“Chris Wood was excellent. He was outstanding for them. He was lean and mean. When we had him he was nowhere near as fit at as that.

“He was the big difference really. They could play it up to him and he could hold it up. He won headers. He dominated our centre-backs and that doesn’t happen often.

“That said, we were well below par. We didn’t play well, we certainly didn’t keep the ball well enough and that’s obviously very frustrating.

“The three injuries didn’t help. Pits looked like he could be out for three or four weeks. Wardy has not trained this week because he’s had a bad back and now he’s got a knee problem and Webbo has a tight hamstring. I can’t see any of them being available for Tuesday night against Brighton.

“It’s a concern for us. We only brought 19 players and now we’ve only got 16 so yeah, it is a concern for us.”
