Boss delighted with Searsy and deserved point against Villa

Mick McCarthy saluted the performance of Freddie Sears after watching his side take a deserved point with a goalless draw against Aston Villa.

Blues staged a grandstand finish at Portman Road, with Freddie hitting the post and going close with a free-kick and Cole Skuse and Leon Best both denied by goalline clearances in added on time.

“I have to give Villa credit for the way they defended. They got blocks in when they needed to,” the Town boss told Ipswich Player HD.

“They have got some good players but I don’t remember them testing us too much. We hit the post at the end and were pushing for the winner but overall, it was a fair result and a good point.

“Freddie was unlucky but he was fantastic for us again. He tracked back, got tackles in, helped Jonas [Knudsen] out and still had his chances. Yeah, he needs a goal but he will get one.

“Everyone wants him to score and it will come. He will be the hero here. He’s a hero for me every week the way he plays.”
