NO SURGERY FOR LUKE

22 September 2016

Midfielder back in four weeks after rapid improvement but Varns and Bish in race to be fit for Leeds

Luke Varney and Teddy Bishop are both doubts for Saturday’s game at Leeds but there is good news on the injury front for Luke Hyam.

Varns was forced off in the first-half for the U23s against Leeds on Monday night while Bish sustained a nose injury in the goalless draw against Aston Villa last weekend.

“Bish has broken his nose and is wearing a mask but he’s a doubt for the weekend and so is Varns. He has a tight hamstring from the game the other night and we will have a look at him,” Town boss Mick McCarthy told Ipswich Player HD.

“We’ve had some good news on Luke Hyam though and he has got a smile on his face today for the first time for a while.

“He has seen a specialist and he’s improved so much over the last two weeks that he doesn’t need an operation anymore.

“It will probably take him four weeks before he is back at the level we need him because he has de-conditioned but that’s much better than what we expected.”

Luke has not played since pre-season where he damaged a nerve in his knee.
