Town boss says players looking to wipe out memory of last season's TV nightmare

Mick McCarthy says Town will be on a revenge mission at the Madejski Stadium on Friday night.

Blues take on Reading in front of the live Sky TV cameras, with last season’s 5-1 defeat to the Royals - also beamed around the world by the satellite broadcaster - still fresh in the memory of Mick and his players.

“It is a bit of a revenge mission for us after the humbling on TV there last season,” the Town boss told Ipswich Player HD.

“That was nuts, that result though. We had more shots than them, more corners, yet lost 5-1. They had six shots and scored with five of them.

“All the lads who are here and played that night will remember that game when we kick-off tomorrow.”

Steve Clarke was in charge of Reading then, now it’s former Manchester United defender Jaap Stam in command of the Royals having taken over in the summer.

“They have had a mixed start. I saw them play Wolves and they could have lost by more than the two goals,” added Mick.

“They drew 2-2 with Brighton and had a good result against Cardiff before the break.

“He has brought in some good players and they’ve got good players still there from last season. They are beginning to settle in and play the way Jaap wants them to play.”

Kick-off at the Madejski Stadium is 8pm with live commentary on Ipswich Player HD. Subscribers to Player can watch a full interview with Mick now.
