Boss looking to freshen things up as he targets a return to Play-Off contention

Mick McCarthy is anticipating a new look Town side next season as he looks to build a team to compete for the Play-Offs again.

Blues have eight first-team players out of contract in the summer in addition to Tom Lawrence, Jonny Williams Emyr Huws, Toumani Diagouraga and Dominic Samuel, who are at the Club on loan until that time.

“I have got some difficult decisions to make with the squad but it’s no different to any other year,” the Town boss told Ipswich Player HD.

“It could be a busy summer. We could have a new look side next season. We have players who are on loan, we don’t know if we want to keep them, can we keep them? Do they want to be here?

“We have players who are coming out of contract. Some we have options on but there is a real opportunity to freshen it up.

“I think that’s good for everyone. Change is good. It will be five years at the Club for me next November and there have been calls for me to be changed.

“It’s my intention though to come back next season and build a team that hopefully can compete for the Play-Offs and there is a chance to freshen that team up.”
