Mick praise for different qualities in his team as Town win 'hardest game of season'
Mick McCarthy was delighted with the quality and attitude shown by his players as Town entered the second round of the Carabao Cup.
David McGoldrick’s brace saw off a spirited and impressive Luton side that hit eight goals past Yeovil at the weekend.
“They had a fabulous result on Saturday and we knew it was going to be a tough game and it was. They are a good side,” the Town boss told iFollow.
“There were chances at both ends but the attitude of my team was great. We played some really good football as well.
“Didzy finished the game with two goals and had a good 90 minutes. He linked up well with Bersant Celina and that was great to see.
“Flynn [Downes] and Tristan [Nydam] were excellent for us and I was really surprised and pleasantly surprised by how Bersant competed. He is committed to his style of play, which we can all see but he worked really hard as well and I was delighted with that. There was some really good stuff out there from him.
“I think this game is the hardest game of the season. Everyone is up for the first game. Everyone wants to be in the team. The ones that aren’t are disappointed. Then you have the Tuesday night and the Carabao Cup and people thinking the league is what counts but I didn’t see that tonight. I have seen it before but not tonight and that is terrific.”
