Mick delighted with maximum return . Just 43 League games to go!
Mick McCarthy hailed the impressive start of his team as Blues made it four wins from the first four games with a thrilling 4-3 victory at Millwall.
Jordan Spence won it for Blues with an 88th minute header after Martyn Waghorn (2) and Joe Garner continued to make their mark on Town’s fortunes.
“You can say it’s a great game when you have won it. It’s not a great game if you lose it but we have entertained and scored some great goals,” the Town boss told iFollow.
“It could have gone either way. It ebbed and flowed and I would have taken the point at 3-3 because they were having a right go.
“I thought our front five were awesome but it was our back five that had to withstand a barrage. It was an onslaught at the end but we got bodies in the way and cleared it and the irony of it all was that it was a defender that won it for us.
“It was a great delivery from Wardy [Grant Ward] and he was terrific for us. Considering he has not trained since he got injured and to keep going to 95 minutes, he was excellent.
“It was real test for us tonight but you can never question the character of my players and it was great to see the scenes at the end and the fans really enjoying themselves. I said on Saturday though, it’s a start. We have 43 more League games to go so we are not getting carried away.”
