Blues striker targets double figures after scoring a brace at Kenilworth Road

David McGoldrick is hoping he can meet his target of scoring double figures at least throughout the season having opened his account for the campaign.

The Irishman grabbed a double as the Blues saw off Luton Town 2-0 at Kenilworth Road in the first round of the Carabao Cup, a win that he believes was merited based on the performance.

"Luton played very good football and the second goal killed them off, but we battled, stood firm at the back and got what we deserved," he told iFollow Ipswich after the game.

"It's my job to score goals and I haven't done that a lot in the past few seasons.

"I always back myself to score double figures and even though I've had injuries I still should be scoring so that was my main aim today, to get a couple of goals.

"I'm delighted for myself and it's great for my confidence."
