Teenager on his dream come true as he bursts on to the first-team scene

Flynn Downes says he’s surprised he has made a breakthrough into the first-team but he’s intending to stay.

The teenager, who has been with the Club since the age of seven and has progressed through the Academy, made his debut in last week’s win over Birmingham and impressed again in his first start for Town in the Carabao Cup victory at Luton on Tuesday.

“It’s obviously been a great start to the season for me personally,” Flynn told iFollow.

“Making my debut last week was a dream come true. It was just an amazing feeling and the fact that we won and then did the same at Luton - which is the most important thing - meant I could really enjoy it.

“I’m a little surprised to be where I am. I didn’t expect to be in this situation but I worked hard in pre-season and it’s paid off so far.

“It’s down to me to keep it going now and show the manager I’m good enough to be involved.”
