Blues kick off their 2017/18 U23 campaign with a win
Luke Hyam made his return to action as Town's U23s kicked off the new campaign by coming from two goals behind to beat Crewe Alexandra at Playford Road.
The midfielder played the first 45 minutes at the Blues' Training Ground on his return from injury as Conor McKendry hit the winner with just under 20 minutes to go.
The Alex started well and were 2-0 in front after 30 minutes, as Lewis Reilly opened the scoring with a header that looped over Harry Wright and Owen Dale adding a second with a composed finish soon after.
Town did pull one back before the break with skipper, Chris Smith nodding home a James Blanchfield free-kick from close range.
Monty Patterson had a glorious opportunity to level the scoreline immediately after the restart, but he just dragged his effort from a promising area wide of the target. Ben Folami did equalise on the hour mark with a superb finish from the edge of the box.
Gerard Nash's side wanted more, though, and got what they deserved as McKendry nutmegged his opponent before lashing into the far corner from 20 yards to get the new campaign off to the perfect start.
