Boss pays tribute to impact of Flynn and Tristan

Mick McCarthy says Flynn Downes and Tristan Nydam will both have a part to play for Town this season.

The teenagers have progressed through the Academy and forced their way into the first-team squad after catching the Town boss’ eye last term and impressing again in pre-season.

Flynn made his debut as a substitute, replacing another teenager, the injured Andre Dozzell, in Saturday’s win over Birmingham while Tristan was on the bench.

“To come on as a sub two minutes before half-time and play like he did, terrific. He is a really good player, Flynn,” Mick told the Club website.

“He puts his foot in, he plays way above his years. He can cover the ground, he competes. I’m having him. He’s a good ‘un.

“Tristan has done well also. He was great for us in pre-season. I think he will play games for us this year. They both will.”

Flynn and Tristan are in the Town squad for tonight’s Carabao Cup tie at Luton. Live commentary on iFollow. Kick-off 7.45pm.
