NEW SECURITY MEASURES IN PLACE

4 August 2017

Fans advised to get to ground earlier than normal

Town fans are advised that extra security measures will be place at Portman Road this season, including no large bags being allowed into the stadium.

Blues kick off the Championship campaign against Birmingham on Saturday and supporters should allow more time to get into the stadium, with the Club stepping up search procedures in line with advice from the safety authorities following the terror attacks in Manchester and London this year.

“There are three significant changes that fans will notice this season, Town’s matchday safety officer, Mick Warden, tells the Club website.

1) No large bags will be allowed into the ground as part of our security review. By large bags we are using as a guide a standard sized carrier bag.
2) More searching of fans will be undertaken as they enter the stadium.
3) More stewards will be deployed, particularly outside the stadium, both before and after a match.

“In respect of the increased searching it would be easier, and speed the process up, if fans didn’t bring any bags to a match.

“Additionally, fans should arrive earlier as the search process may delay entry into the ground. I would also ask fans not to leave any bags unattended, be particularly vigilant and alert to any suspicious behaviour, vehicles or unattended items. If they see any such incidents to immediately report them to the nearest steward or police officer so that immediate action can be taken.”
