Youngsters can benefit from watching Skusey says boss
Cole Skuse will be fit to face Barnsley on Saturday and Mick McCarthy points to the midfielder as a role model for his young players emerging in the team.
The 31-year-old was forced off against Luton in midweek but has trained today and is in the squad for the trip to Oakwell.
“Skusey is fine. He’s durable,” the Town boss told iFollow, with Jordan Spence and Joe Garner among the players who missed the Carabao Cup win declared fit for the weekend.
“The youngsters that have come into the team have done great for us but when you get young players making a breakthrough, the work the senior pros do helping them often goes unnoticed.
“I know how important they are from my own experience. I was a young centre back at Barnsley and had Ian Evans alongside me. He would calm me down sometimes. He used to say he would keep me on a leash!
“Skusey is a great example to the young players here. Look at how many games he has played; how he plays; his reliability.
“Any young player can look at him and learn. It’s the same with Chambo [Luke Chambers] as well.”
