Mick rues errors for goals after frustrating Boro

Mick McCarthy felt Town let Middlesbrough off the hook at the Riverside.

The home fans were growing increasingly frustrated as half-time approached with Blues the equal of recently relegated Boro but goals either side of half-time from Martin Braithwaite and Patrick Bamford gave Garry Monk’s side the three points.

“We blinked again. We made the mistake. We lost the ball, then didn’t defend the cross very well and that changes things,” the Town boss told iFollow Ipswich about the first goal.

“That knocks you back at half-time but we are still in the game and then six minutes in, what we did was bonkers. We hadn’t got clear, the ball is sent up the line and it left us wide open.

“We talked about being tough and strong and keep it at one goal and they would have got nervous at 1-0, 20 minutes in or so and we let them off the hook completely.

“Then they looked like a great team because they have got good players.

“We have got to be tougher, concentrate better and not make those mistakes at crucial moments.

“We kept going to the end as we always do and we had chances in the first-half. They have got a talented squad but we gave them a helping hand and that makes it very difficult to get something from the game when you’re two down.”
