MICK PRAISE FOR PERSEVERANCE

30 December 2017

We got back in game says boss but Webster adds to injury list

Mick McCarthy praised his team’s resilience as they stayed in the game against an impressive Derby side.

Two goals from Sam Winnall helped the Rams into a commanding position but Joe Garner gave Blues a lifeline with a header midway through the second-half.

“The game could have got away from us and I said to the players at half-time, ‘well done for staying in there’,” the Town boss told iFollow Ipswich.

“Their wastefulness in front of goal helped obviously and I changed it at the break but we will never know whether that would have worked because they’ve scored a second with an unbelievable strike.

“We worked our way back into the game though and the players deserve eternal credit for that.

“We used the ball better and gave them a few problems and we could have nicked something at the end. Credit to them though, they have defended well and over the 90 minutes they were better than us. They are a good team.”

Adam Webster has been added to Town’s injury list, the defender limping off in the second-half.

“Webbo has got an achilles problem. He should have come off earlier really,” explained Mick.

“We will see how he is but I can’t see him having any chance for Fulham on Tuesday.”
