McKendry the star of the show as Town thrash the Sky Blues

Conor McKendry scored four times as Town's U23s comfortably defeated Coventry City at Playford Road this afternoon.

Monty Patterson and Ben Morris were also on target for Gerard Nash's side.

It took just ten minutes for Town to open the scoring, as McKendry scored his first of the afternoon, firing the ball into the top corner expertly from the edge of the box.

Less than 60 seconds later it was 2-0 as Patterson got free of the Coventry defence before calmly rolling the ball into the net, past Tom Bilson in the away goal.

McKendry very nearly made it three in as many minutes for the Blues as he connected well with Clements' cross from the left, but his volley struck the post and was cleared.

He did get his second, and Town's third, just past the half hour mark, with a brilliant free-kick that got up and over the wall and nestled nicely into the corner. It was a goal that was to be replicated right on half-time, as McKendry sealed his hat-trick with another wonderful free-kick.

The Blues started the second-half slightly slower than they did the first, but the fifth goal came just past the hour mark. McKendry this time turned provider, picking out Morris in space inside the box who confidently made it 5-0.

Sky Blues defender, Jak Hickman was shown a second yellow card with 15 minutes to play for a foul on Morris as frustration got the better of the visitors.

The final goal of the game came courtesy of McKendry again with just over five minutes remaining with the Northern Irishman firing low into the bottom corner from outside the box.

Town had chances to add to their six goals, but 6-0 was how it finished, as the win makes it six without defeat for Nash's 23s.

Town: Hayes, Crowe, Woolfenden (Ndaba, 70), Webber, Clements, Downes (McLoughlin, 65), Blanchfield, McKendry, Folami (Daniels, 70), Morris. Not used: Wright, Dobra.
