BOSS BUOYED BY ROYAL PERFORMANCE

9 February 2017

Mick given timely encouragement ahead of Villa trip

Mick McCarthy has told the Club website how important the performance against Reading was for him personally as Town prepare for the weekend trip to Aston Villa.

Blues reacted positively to the defeat by Derby four days earlier with a display that earned a warm ovation from the supporters on the final whistle despite being pegged back twice in the 2-2 draw by the promotion chasing Royals.

“That performance was very important because it was encouraging for me,” the Town boss said in an interview with Ipswich Player HD.

“Let me tell you, I’d been discouraged by some of the performances, annoyed, upset with some of them.

“I don’t think the players ever go out and play that way on purpose. They have never let me down like that but it was getting to that point where it was discouraging for me.

“I want to see better performances. Unfortunately it’s been one good one, one bad one.

“I think the players who came in last week were good, experienced players and made a difference. Toums [Toumani Diagouraga], Emyr Huws was excellent.
Tayls [Steven Taylor] added a lot to it. Having Didz [David McGoldrick] back, fit and raring to go makes a big difference to us as well.”
