We deserved to win says Mick as Town impress against another promotion hopeful

Mick McCarthy felt Town did enough to have won the game after watching his side have the better of the 90 minutes against top six Leeds in front of close on 19,000 at Portman Road.

Freddie Sears’ early goal was cancelled out by Stuart Dallas’ equaliser just before the break but Blues had chances to have won the game in the second-half.

“We played well and created some good chances. I thought we did enough to have won the game,” the Town boss told Ipswich Player HD.

“It was a terrific goal from Freddie. We could have gone with Kieffer [Moore] or Pits [Brett Pitman]. I spoke to TC [Terry Connor] about it and we went for Freddie’s pace and ability to get around the back and he showed that today. He was a real pest for them.

“Didz showed his quality again. When he’s fit and firing like he is, he makes a big difference to us and Emyr [Huws] has been a revelation for us as well.

“We shouldn’t have conceded the goal we did but again we have shown we can go toe to toe with the best teams.

“It’s been encouraging over the last three or four weeks. It shows you that if you play well and get good results you will get great support and that is what we’ve had again today.

“If we continue to play as we have done recently, the fans will come back. It’s certainly a happier place than it was six weeks ago and that’s down to performances on the pitch.”
