Midfielder set for return to action next week
Luke Hyam is closing in on a return to action and could feature for the U23s against West Brom on Monday.
The midfielder has not featured for the first-team this season after sustaining a knee injury in pre-season which eventually resulted in surgery, with the Academy graduate affected by a problem around the nerve.
Town are away at West Brom in the Premier League Cup, with Tommy Smith, who has recovered from a back injury also a possible to feature having come through 90 minutes for the U23s against Watford on Monday.
“Luke is back training now and he will probably play next week for the U23s,” Mick McCarthy told the Club website.
“That’s great news for us and more importantly great news for Luke.
“He’s been out a long time and has had to deal with the mental stresses and strains that go with a long injury.”
Mick added that although some players have missed training this week, he hopes to have a near full contingent - apart from the long term absentees - for the visit to Aston Villa at the weekend.
“Chambo [Luke Chambers], Tom [Lawrence], Bez [Christophe Berra] and Danny Rowe have all been in for treatment. Skusey as well but he’s trained today,” added the Town boss.
“Danny has got a tight groin but he’s gone from part-time training to full-time so he’s got to be careful. He’s done well though.
“Not so much with Danny but the others should all be okay for the weekend.”
