MILTS GETS WEMBLEY CALL UP

23 February 2017

Simon set to meet Zlatan and co in recognition of Prostate Cancer UK work

Simon Milton is missing his first derby in years on Sunday but it’s taken a very good reason to keep him away from Carrow Road - an appearance at Wembley for the EFL Cup final.

The former Blue, and now director of Academy sales at the Club, is Prostate Cancer UK’s guest of honour at the game and as such, will shake hands with the players of both Manchester United and Southampton on the pitch just before kick-off as part of the official pre-match build-up.

The prestigious honour is reward for Milts’ involvement in heading up TEAMITFC’s cycle challenge over the last three years, with the Club supporting the London to Amsterdam cycle ride. In that time, TEAMITFC have raised £250,000 for Prostate Cancer UK and the Friends of Ipswich Town Charity.

“I can’t remember the last derby I missed and it would take something big for me to miss Carrow Road on Sunday but I couldn’t turn down the invitation from Prostate Cancer UK,” Milts told the Club website.

“To have the chance to represent Ipswich Town and all the cyclists from TEAMITC at Wembley will be an amazing honour, as well as it obviously being a memorable day for me personally and my family.

“Our cycle rides really are a team effort and the support we have received from the staff at the Club, the sponsors, Prostate Cancer UK and most importantly, the cyclists who take part has been inspiring.

“I have seen first-hand at hospital how the revenue we have raised is helping the fight against Prostate Cancer and that drives you on to keep supporting the excellent work they are doing and we will be going again this summer with our two day Tour of Suffolk, as well as the next London to Amsterdam ride in June.

“I have never played at Wembley so Sunday will be the closest I will get! First though I’ll be sitting down in front of the telly in my hotel room to support Mick and the players to hopefully three points.”

Milts will be joined at the EFL Cup final by John Reader from GAH, who has sponsored TEAMITFC for the three years.
