Luke back in action and Tommy continues to make progress in cup stalemate

Luke Hyam played just over an hour for the U23s as he made his return to action following surgery.

The midfielder has been sidelined since the summer and eventually had an operation in October to repair a damaged nerve connected to his knee.

Also in action at the Hawthorns was Tommy Smith, who continued his comeback from surgery on his back with another 90 minute run out.

The New Zealand international has not played for the first-team since September but has now got 180 minutes under his belt for the U23s, having featured in the 8-0 win over Watford last week.

In a game of few chances, Andre Dozzell sent a free-kick over the bar for Blues, while Michael Crowe twice denied Chay Tilt as Gerard Nash’s side left the midlands with a share of the spoils in this Premier League cup clash.
