Midfielder delighted to break into the first-team picture and feels more Championship minutes will continue to help him develop
Andre Dozzell admits he's still getting used to the physicality of the Championship - but is targeting more game-time from now until the end of the season.
The Academy product has forced his way into the first-team picture of late and is hoping to use that experience to kick on and play a part for Mick McCarthy's side.
"It's the Championship, it's a hard league. I'm only 17 still so it's difficult to throw somebody my age into those type of games. It's a physical league and it's something I'm working on in the gym to try to improve so I can be better and stronger," said Andre, in an exclusive interview that will be published in Saturday's official matchday programme.
“Time goes quickly when you're in football so I might be 17 just now, but soon enough I'll be in my twenties, so I just want to be in the team as much as I can from now on.
“I have found the quickness of the game changes each time you go up a level. I don't have as much time on the ball in the first-team as I do in the 23s.
“One little thing can make the difference between a win and a loss in the Championship, so if you give it away in a bad area you'll be punished and you might not be in the team next week whereas in the 23s you can make those mistakes a bit more and take the risks.
“Winning second balls and tackles is something I need to add to my game as well so you can look up to the more senior players in the squad and try to add what they have to my own game.
"I just want to kick on now and get more minutes and more experience in this division."
