Perfect patient Tommy ahead of schedule as he closes in on comeback

Mick McCarthy says it will give everyone a boost to have Tommy Smith, Luke Hyam and Teddy Bishop back in training in a week or two.

Tommy has been out since the start of September after having surgery on his back while Luke has not featured all season having sustained a knee injury in pre season that eventually required an operation.

Teddy has joined them on the sidelines over the past month with ankle ligament damage.

Tommy and Luke are expected to return to full training the week after next, with Bish also closing in on a comeback.

“Tommy and Luke were back out on the grass this week doing some work and that was great to see,” the Town boss told the Club website.

“We are looking at February for their return to the squad and it’s the same with Bish.

“Tommy is back earlier than anticipated after an operation on his back. He was bothered by it before but managed it carefully but he got to the point where surgery was needed. That has been a great success. He has been the perfect patient as well, as you would expect.

“He has done all his rehab work diligently and he - and we - are delighted with his progress. It will give us all a boost to have Tommy, Luke and Bish out there and training with us.”
