Heavy defeat for Town at the Valley
Andre Dozzell scored on his return to first-team action, but Town were heavily beaten by Charlton at the Valley.
It took little over ten minutes for the hosts to open the scoring, with Patrick Bauer glancing a Ricky Holmes free-kick past Bartosz Bialkowski.
The Addicks then extended their lead with as Billy Clarke intercepted a Danny Rowe back-pass before squaring the ball to Tariqe Fosu who fired home. Five minutes later, Josh Magennis made it 3-0 as he rose the head a Holmes cross into the back of the net.
Magennis doubled his own tally as the half-time whistle approached as he swept home from the edge of the box after Clarke had pulled the ball into his path, as the Addicks took a four-goal lead into the break.
Just six minutes after the restart, it was five for the home side, with Holmes grabbing a goal to add to his two earlier assists as he superbly curled the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box.
Half-time substitute, Dozzell pulled one back with a close range finish after Jonas Knudsen had headed Grant Ward's cross back across goal, but just minutes later, Holmes got his second, and Charlton's sixth goal.
Flynn Downes tripped Tony Watt on the edge of the box and Holmes stepped up to whip the free-kick into the top corner of the net.
Ben Folami did force a save out of Ben Amos as the game drew to a close, but 6-1 was how it finished in South London.
