Blues boss backs Flynn to make an impact in 2017/18

Mick McCarthy is expecting Flynn Downes to play his part in the Town first-team this season after impressing in pre-season.

The 18-year old midfielder was handed a new three year contract at Portman Road this week, and the manager has high hopes for him.

"I said to Marcus 'sign him up' because he's a very, very good player," the manager told iFollow Ipswich.

"He'll contribute to the first-team this season.

"The way we're going with central midfield players, Luke Hyam, Emyr Huws and Teddy Bishop are injured, Cole Skuse and Tom Adeyemi are poorly, he might get in the team and they might not get him out."
