Monty Patterson earned his 11th cap, and Tommy Smith was an unused substitute as New Zealand fell to a 1-0 defeat to Belarus yesterday.

The U23 forward came on as a second-half substitute in Minsk but couldn't help his side overturn the one goal deficit.

The friendly was the All Whites' final game prior to the beginning of the Confederations Cup in Russia this month where both Monty and Tommy will hope to be involved in group stage matches against Russia, Mexico and Portugal having been named in Anthony Hudson's 23-man squad.

Central defender, Tommy currently has 32 caps for his country, and recently netted in a 5-2 win over Cabinteely in Dublin.
