We take a look at five key dates for the diary, following today's EFL Fixture Release Day
Saturday, August 5th
The opening day of the season. Always a key date in the calendar of a football supporter and it will be no different this term, as Town kick off the new Championship season with a home tie. Harry Redknapp will bring his Birmingham side to Portman Road on August 5th, just months after they ensured their Championship status on the final day.
Tuesday, September 26th
Sunderland visit Portman Portman Road in late September, as they prepare for Championship football following their relegation in May. The Black Cats departed with manager David Moyes soon after and are yet to appoint a new Head Coach. Current Town boss, Mick McCarthy, had a spell in charge at the Stadium of Light earlier in his career.
Saturday, October 14th
Town will travel to the Steel City to take on recently promoted Sheffield United. Chris Wilder's side marched to the League One title last term and will be looking to take that form into the Championship this campaign. The Blues will travel to Bramall Lane on Saturday, October 14th.
Saturday, October 21st & Saturday, February 17th
Two dates for your diary here, the anticipated clashes with East Anglian rivals Norwich City. Both games last season ended in a 1-1 draw, with Jonas Knudsen netting in both fixtures for Blues. Town host the Canaries first (October 21st) before travelling to Carrow Road in mid-February. Both games were moved back 24 hours last season for live TV coverage and that could be the same scenario this time around.
Sunday, May 6th
The final day of the season. Town will wrap up the campaign with a home game at Portman Road, as Garry Monk's Middlesbrough make the long journey down from the north east. Boro were relegated from the Premier League last term, with manager Aitor Karanka departing before the season ended. Note that the game is on a Sunday, not a Saturday, and is likely to be a 12 noon kick-off. This will be confirmed in due course.
