Boss thrilled to have hitman on board at the second attempt

Mick McCarthy has welcomed a ‘proven goalscorer’ to Town in Joe Garner.

The 29-year-old striker was at Playford Road today for the first day of pre-season training having joined the Club from Rangers on a three year deal.

“Joe is a proven player in the Championship and a proven goalscorer at this level as well,” the Town boss told iFollow.

“We tried to take him from Preston before he joined Rangers but we are delighted to have him with us now.

“He has always caused us problems and I go back as far as the FA Cup replay up there a few years back when he got a hat-trick.

“He scored a lot of goals for Preston. I’m not sure it really worked out very well for him at Rangers and he became available and like I said, we are thrilled to have him here.”
