Club rewarded locally for commitment and contribution
Town, along with the Official ITFC Supporters’ Club were recently awarded certificates of recognition for support, contribution and commitment towards making Ipswich a dementia friendly community.
Elizabeth Edwards, along with representatives from other local businesses and organisations, accepted an invitation from the outgoing Ipswich Mayor, Roger Fern, to attend the Dementia Friend recognition event at the Mayor’s Parlour last month, on what was the first day of the recent Alzheimer’s Society ‘Dementia Awareness Week’. Liz accepted the certificates from the Mayor on behalf of Town and ITSC.
The Club is a one of a number of local businesses and organisations committed to help those living with dementia as part of its work with, and its membership of the Ipswich Dementia Action Alliance (IDAA).
In particular it focuses on how someone living with dementia can continue to do the things they love; including attending their favourite football team’s matches and remembering that as well as the person with dementia - family, friends and carers are also living with it.
To recognise this, the Club were also presented with a sticker to display at Portman Road showing that Town is one of many local organisations working to become dementia friendly.
The activities of the Club also form part of the Alzheimer’s Society #TeamDementiaFriends campaign to involve football clubs and fans.
